- Position: AOD Counsellor (IYSMSS)
- Salary: SCHADS Level 4
- FTE: 0.7 (negotiable, including workdays)
The Role As the AOD Counsellor for the Integrated Youth Substance Misuse Specialist Service (IYSMSS) at Alban Place, you will play a key role in providing therapeutic interventions to young people aged 12-24 who are navigating substance misuse issues. Alban Place offers a holistic, integrated care model that includes Sobering Up services, residential treatment, and outpatient counselling. The key duties in this role will include: - Conducting bio-psychosocial assessments to develop tailored intervention plans.
- Supporting young people through their transition into residential rehabilitation.
- Utilising therapeutic techniques such as Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
- Providing counselling, family work, and consultancy to both individuals and families.
- Maintaining accurate client and program documentation, ensuring timely case notes and compliance with reporting requirements.
About You You’re a compassionate, motivated professional with experience in delivering Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) interventions. You understand the unique challenges faced by young people struggling with substance misuse and the impact of mental health issues on their journey. Essential Criteria - Valid DHS Working with Children Check
- Certificate IV in Alcohol & Other Drugs (or equivalent)
- Proven experience in therapeutic AOD interventions
- Understanding of the intersection of mental health and substance use
Desirable - Experience working with young people in a residential setting
- Experience supporting families dealing with Alcohol and Other Drug issues
- Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Nursing, or Occupational Therapy
- Valid Driver’s Licence
Special Conditions: - On-call responsibilities
- Flexibility to work outside standard hours when needed
