Aboriginal Engagement Worker

Join our Restore team as an Aboriginal Engagement Worker, empowering families through cultural, therapeutic, and practical support to strengthen safety and connection.

 

The Role

The Aboriginal Engagement Worker is part of the Restore Intensive Family Services team, a voluntary, family-focused program that supports families experiencing complex challenges to keep children safe at home. Restore uses a restorative, strength-based, and trauma-informed approach to build parenting capacity, strengthen family functioning, and promote connection to culture and community through intensive, wraparound support.

 

In this role, the Aboriginal Engagement Worker provides cultural, practical, and therapeutic support to families, helping create safe, stable, and nurturing home environments. The position works closely with the Murinthi Aboriginal Workforce Development team and Elders to ensure services are culturally safe, inclusive, and responsive, while empowering families to strengthen wellbeing, resilience, and community connections.

 

This is a fixed term opportunity until 30 June 2026.

What you need to bring

Essential

  • Knowledge and experience of Aboriginal Communities
  • Experience working with families involved in the Child Protection System
  • Valid Department of Human Services (DHS) Working with Children Check
  • Current Drivers Licence

Desirable

  • Community Services or equivalent
  • Knowledge and experience in trauma-informed practice approaches
  • Experience in working collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams

  • Extra paid day off on the Friday of NAIDOC week to attend NAIDOC events
