Family Relationship Counsellor
Elizabeth Park (Full time, 1.0 FTE)

 

The Role

 

As a Family Relationship Counsellor, you will provide counselling and support to children, individuals, couples and families experiencing relationship difficulties or separation. Working within a child-focused and trauma-informed framework, you assist clients in navigating challenges, strengthening family connections, and prioritising the best interests of the child.

 

The Family Relationship Counsellor will have the following key responsibilities:

  • Provide strength-based, child-focused counselling to individuals, children, and families.

  • Work collaboratively with the Program Manager to ensure high-quality service delivery.

  • Apply knowledge of family dynamics, child development, and domestic and family violence.

  • Facilitate group sessions and provide referrals as needed.

  • Maintain accurate client records using the Penelope database.

  • Build strong relationships with internal and external service providers

This position is funded on a fixed-term opportunity until 30 June 2026.

What you need to bring

 

     Essential:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Counselling OR tertiary qualifications in Social Work/ Psychology with substantial counselling experience
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office suite (e.g. Word, Excel) and other technology to fulfil requirements of the role
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Valid Department of Human Services (DHS) Working with Children Check. 
  • Valid Driver’s Licence
  • Ability to do some intra-state travel intra-state when required

     Desirable:

  • Counselling experience with couples
  • Counselling experience with children
  • Group work experience
  • Experience using Penelope electronic client management system
  • Experience in the community services sector and/or not-for-profit sector
