Provide cultural guidance, training and community connection to strengthen culturally safe foster care and support children’s connection to culture and Country
The Role
This role plays a vital part in strengthening culturally safe and responsive care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people.
Working within the Foster Care team, you will provide cultural guidance, advocacy and support to foster carers and staff. You will help ensure children remain connected to their culture, community and Country, while contributing to culturally informed assessments, care planning and service delivery.
You will work closely with Ngani Pari-Arra Cultural Centre (NPACC), Elders, community members and multidisciplinary teams to embed culturally respectful and inclusive practices across the service.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide cultural advocacy and guidance to support culturally safe care
- Strengthen connections to community and Country through cultural activities and engagement
- Work alongside Elders, community members and care teams
- Contribute to carer assessments and care planning
- Co-deliver cultural learning and training to carers and staff
About You
Essential:
- Strong cultural knowledge, connection to, or lived experience within Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities
- Experience supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, families or communities, including those involved in the Child Protection system
- Valid DHS Working With Children Check
- Current Driver’s Licence
Desirable:
- Qualification in Social Work, Community Services or similar
- Experience contributing to assessments and reports
- Understanding of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Child Placement Principles
- Experience contributing to cultural learning
- Experience working within multi-disciplinary teams
