Mental Health Clinician

headspace is Australia’s National Youth Mental Health Foundation, providing early intervention mental health services to 12-25 year olds.

 

Each year, headspace helps thousands of young people access vital support through headspace centres in communities across Australia, via online and phone counselling services, vocational services, and presence in schools.

 

Centacare is the Lead Agency of headspace Port Adelaide, aligning with the headspace Model Integrity Framework the Mental Health Clinician will provide mental health, physical health (including sexual health), alcohol and other drug services, and work and study support to young people.

 

As a Mental Health Clinician, you’ll support young people to thrive through meaningful therapeutic relationship—combining clinical skill, genuine connection, and team-based care.

 

This opportunity is available in both full-time and part-time capacities.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality clinical services by conducting intake, psychosocial and risk assessments, providing evidence-based therapeutic interventions, and managing an active client caseload.
  • Promote client safety and wellbeing through effective assessment, management and documentation of clinical risk, including responding to crisis situations in line with organisational policies.
  • Maintain accurate clinical records by ensuring documentation meets legal, professional and organisational standards, including compliance with the headspace Model Integrity Framework.
  • Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team by participating in case reviews, clinical discussions and building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to achieve positive outcomes for young people.
  • Contribute to service improvement by supporting group programs, identifying service improvements, enhancing access and engagement, and participating in quality improvement initiatives.
  • Demonstrate professional excellence through ongoing professional development, clinical supervision, ethical practice, maintaining professional registration, and delivering culturally safe and inclusive care.

About You


To be successful in this role, you will have:

 

Essential 

You must be at least one of the following:

  • A Psychologist with general registration or a recognised area of practice
  • A Social Worker who is a member of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) and accredited/or working towards becoming an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker
  • An Occupational Therapist with Better Access to Mental Health (BAMH) endorsement
  •  A Registered Nurse with accreditation to the Australian College of Mental Health Nurses

And:

  • Maintain professional accreditation relevant to discipline
  • Current Department of Human Services (DHS) Working with Children Check
  • Demonstrated experience working with young people aged 12–25, including families and support networks
  • Experience delivering evidence-based and evidence informed mental health interventions
  • Current Australian driver’s licence

 

Desirable - Its good if you have these but not essential 

  • Experience using the Mastercare electronic client record system
  •  Familiarity with the headspace model or similar youth mental health framework
  • Experience developing and facilitating group programs

 

Demonstrated ability to assess and manage clinical risk, including suicide risk – and reducing risk/distress to support overall wellbeing.

 

Special Conditions

  • Some out of hours work may be required
  • Willingness to use a grey fleet vehicle (as required)
  • Participation in supervision in line with organisational requirements
  • Participation in clinical governance and quality improvement activities (for example audits or file reviews)
