Support foster carers by delivering trauma training, reviewing carer households, ensuring key carer competencies are being met, and supporting carer development and events.

 

The Role

 

Centacare is offering a part-time Senior Training and Review Officer position (maternity cover) within our Foster Care program, based in Seaton. This 0.8 FTE role runs until 20 September 2025.

 

Reporting to the Assessment Manager, you’ll work alongside an inclusive and supportive team to provide specialist and general foster care for children aged 0-17 years in immediate, short-term, long-term, and respite placements. Your key responsibilities include delivering tailored trauma training to foster carers, conducting carer reviews, and ensuring key carer competencies are met. You’ll also identify carers' training needs, provide development opportunities focused on therapeutic care, and support fostering events and support groups. Additionally, the role involves quality assurance of policies and processes, tracking mandatory training requirements, and contributing to program development.

 

Workdays and hours are negotiable for the right candidate.

 

The key duties in this role will include: 

  • Deliver training sessions with other staff, coordinating the roster for courses like Shared Lives and Circle of Security.
  • Work with Seaton Admin and external agencies to oversee the coordination of crèche services.
  • Organise and manage foster carer training, including scheduling carer presenters for Shared Lives sessions.
  • Monitor training outcomes by gathering feedback and evaluations and maintain the carer training register.
  • Conduct and review complex carer assessments, ensuring key competencies are met, and manage difficult conversations when necessary.
  • Assist in organising foster carer events and support groups while promoting a positive team culture and safe work environment.

 About You

 

You are a compassionate professional with extensive experience in child protection, trauma-responsive care, and supporting children with high and complex needs. Your deep understanding of foster carer competencies allows you to provide clear guidance to staff and carers, ensuring they receive the training and support they need. You have a strong background in recruitment, assessment, and therapeutic care, with the ability to manage sensitive conversations with empathy and professionalism. Skilled at balancing competing priorities, you foster a positive team environment while building strong relationships with carers and colleagues.

 

 Essential Criteria

  • Social Work degree or any qualification recognised under the Department for Child Protection minimum qualification and training requirements (childprotection.sa.gov.au)
  • Environments for Children and Young People
  • Understanding of therapeutic approaches for children and young people with trauma backgrounds
  • Knowledge of Child Protection Legislation
  • Understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Placement Principles
  • Extensive Assessment/Case Management experience
  • Knowledge of therapeutic care and trauma-informed practiceSee attached Position Description for full details.
